FlowRider Wave Machine

The basic technology behind flowriding and the FlowRider ® sheet wave is the use of multiple, high-energy pumps to project a three inch layer of water over a surface shaped to emulate an ocean wave.

Essentially, the sheet waves are stationary waves with the movement derived from water flowing over this shaped surface. The water flows at between 20 and 30 miles per hour, with as much as 50,000 gallons of water per minute being propelled by the pumps. The Wave Loch sheet wave technology used to power the FlowRider was first patented in December of 1988 by Tom Lochtefeld.

The entry-level wave and the feature around which Flow House is built, is the FlowRider. This wave offers riders of all levels, from beginner to expert, the perfect canvas to improve their riding. The FlowRider is a sheet wave that imitates an ocean swell, giving riders the thrill of flowriding without the intimidation of a barrel. Its large open face allows riders to throw tricks of all kinds from basic maneuvers to more advanced moves.

Sheet wave attractions and the sport of flowriding are the pillars of the Flow House experience. Not only are they a blast to ride, they're mesmerizing to watch while enjoying a great meal or drinks with friends. No other restaurant or bar harnesses the power of the ocean, coming at you at 100,000 gallons a minute, just yards away.

The FlowRider is a unique innovation in water rides that is fun for everyone from kids to adults, but especially for those from ages 13 - 29. This demographic, historically hard to impress, becomes hopelessly addicted to the thrill and challenge of riding the FlowRider.

Unlike most waterpark attractions, where riders are essentially victims of gravity, the FlowRider demands skill, nerve, balance, coordination and technique. The FlowRider appeals to a variety of board-sport enthusiasts from surfing, snowboarding, wakeboarding, skimboarding and skateboarding. The learning curve takes time, but it is steep as riders progress from prone on bodyboards and standing up on flowboards, to throwing kickflips and aerials. This learning curve requires a time investment, but it pays off in a short period of time. The first ride on a FlowRider can quickly become an addiction, as first-time riders become repeat riders, and repeat riders become lifetime loyalists.
